Vladimir Putin Mocks Donald Trump Inauguration In ‘SNL’ Cold Open
“SNL” had Vladimir Putin mocking Donald Trump’s inauguration’s low attendance in its cold open and assuring Americans we’ll be okay under the Russian president’s watch. Watch the “Saturday Night Live” video below.
A shirtless Putin told viewers not to worry about Trump and his presidency. “We’ll take care of America. It’s the most expensive thing we’ve bought,” said the Russian president. He then congratulated Trump on having so many people at his inauguration before adding, “Oh sorry, that’s the women’s protest.” Putin expressed that Trump’s inauguration address was “bleak, and I know bleak. I wake up in Russia every day.” He also voiced surprise at how much Trump said “God” in his speech, which he said was more than on the “tapes I have of you having sex.”
“SNL” has opened each of its 12 episodes this seasons referencing Trump and/or the election. Earlier shows focused on the election, including mocking the three presidential debates between Trump and Clinton. Right after his victory, the show controversially omitted Trump, and had Kate McKinnon open “SNL” as Hillary Clinton singing “Hallelujah.” Another post-election “SNL” open had Trump meeting with Putin dressed as Santa Claus, and gifting him an Elf of the Shelf that was actually a spy cam.
Last week, Trump’s press conference was spoofed on “Saturday Night Live.” The late-night comedy series lampooned Trump calling CNN “fake news” and BuzzFeed a “failing pile of garbage,” as well as him tapping Steve Harvey to work with Dr. Ben Carson in the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Mostly, the show’s open poked fun of the (false) claims that Trump partook in “Golden Showers” with Russian women. There were a number of jokes made about the “stream” of jobs Trump will create, how it will be a “golden” opportunity for Americans, and how he’ll make a “splash” as president. He even questioned the assembled press corp if they would support him by asking, “Your in?”
